Murakami + Sushi + Sake = A Triple Good Time In Little Tokyo
Last night, Mai and I visited the Murakami exhibit at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in Downtown Los Angeles (Little Tokyo). And it was fuckin' sick...haha! Seriously, Takashi Murakami has such a wild and creative imagination that seems limitless. They should build theme parks based around this man's art. If you haven't been to the exhibit, please go check it out. You will not be disappointed. Also, I recommend going to get sushi afterwards since the exhibit is in Little Tokyo like Mai and I did...good times! For info on the exhibit click on the Murakami banner above.
NOTE: I wanted to take pictures so bad, but the museum does not allow photos taken of the art work. They had security all over the place so I couldn't take a single shot. However, I uploaded a couple of pics of Murakami's artwork that's on display at the exhibit below.

The "under the radar" Dark Comedy of 2006
This film got slept on back in 2006, but Art School Confidential is a solid dark comedy by director Terry Zwigoff of Ghost World and Bad Santa fame. Based on the 1991 comic by David Clowes (Ghost World), Art School Confidential tells the story of an under appreciated freshman art student whose work is overshadowed by way less talented idiots, and learns the cutthroat world art while trying to impress the girl of his dreams. Honestly, I was laughing about 75% of time during the movie where the other 25% left me with melancholy feelings toward the protagonist's struggle in the movie. Overall, if you're a fan of Ghost World and Bad Santa or dark comedies in general, you will enjoy Art School Confidential like I did.

I Met Perry Farrell At The Streetwise Holiday Party 12.20.07
I went to my friend Roger's company's holiday party last Thursday and had a blast. The party made up for my absence at my own company's holiday party this year. However, the icing on the cake for me that evening was meeting and shaking hands with Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction and Satellite Party. I have to give the man my thanks and appreciation for all his hard work musically and for creating Lollapalooza. He was even so kind enough to let me take a picture with him. Check it out below in the slide.

Portishead: With A Vengeance
My favorite trip hop band from the 90s, Portishead, is back! Finally, after years of rumors of a new album, Portishead performed (for the first time in almost a decade) three new songs at the All Tomorrow Parties this past weekend in England. Their new album is expected to come out early next year. And there's also a rumor that they will be playing at Coachella '08. I personally never seen Portishead live before so I hope the rumor true. I've been dying to see them live since the late 90s. Click HERE to go to the link to download their brand new songs courtesy of URB magazine. Below is a video of the band performing a brand new song.

Bomb Scare at New Line Cinema 10.5.07
Wow, I almost forgot about this. Back in early October, my job had a bomb scare at our office on Robertson Blvd. The LAPD Bomb Squad was called in to x-ray and examine a suspicious package that was address the President of Development and Production Toby Emmerich. They shut down Robertson from Alden to Beverly. Despite the seriousness of the situation, my co-workers and I made light of it all. Oh, there was no bomb in the suspicious package just plastic body parts. Weird! Anyways, the first pic is of my co-worker Daniel posing in front the bomb squad SUV. The other pic is of my co-worker Kristi and I and our surprised/scared reaction learning that there's a possible bomb in the office...lol. Oh my!

Go Speed Racer Go!
New trailer for the live-action version of Speed Racer just came out. This movie is going to be an automatic blockbuster hit in the theatres next Summer. Done almost entirely in front of a green screen, the movie looks like you're in a live-action cartoon. Although there is too much CGI for my taste, the film looks like a fun ride to watch on the big screen or even IMAX for that matter, which I'm sure they'll have it on. For more info on the film click HERE. Check out the trailer below.

La Jetee (1962)
This is for the hardcore film nerds ONLY. La Jetee (1962) is one of my favorite short films of all time. Directed by Chris Marker, this short inspired the 1995 film 12 Monkeys directed by Terry Gilliam and starring Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt. Constructed almost entirely from still photos, it tells the story of a post-nuclear war experiment in time travel. This short, in a way, was ahead of it's time. I hope you appreciate it.

Erin's Today Was A Good Day B-Day Party 12.2.07
Wow, I thought I took way more pictures than this, but I was juggling shooting video and still shots at the same time. Bad idea especially when you're drunk. I should do one or the other next time (while being drunk...hehe). However, I'm still working on the video portion of this event. Hopefully, I'll have an edit version later by mid-December.

R.I.P. Pimp C of UGK
Another sad day in hip hop - 33 year old rapper Pimp C of the famed Houston based hip hop duo UGK was found dead today at a Los Angeles hotel room on Sunset Blvd this morning. The cause of his death has not been clarified as of yet. Regardless, this is still very sad. UGK just came out with a number one album this past September I believe. UGK is one of few hip hop groups I appreciated when it came to Southern hip hop music. My condolences to his family.

Nicolay at Boombox @ Grand Star (Chinatown) 12.1.07
Straight outta the Netherlands, hip hop producer Nicolay spun a dope dj set this past Saturday in Chinatown. Not the best dj when it comes to mixing, Nicolay still played an awesome playlist of tracks he produced. If you're not familiar with any of his work, I recommend getting the Foreign Exchange album, Nicolay's HERE, and Little Brother's The Listening album.
Click HERE for all the pictures above via Picasa.
Bonus videos: Not the best clarity because of poor lighting, but the sound is excellent.
